These are fantastic shots! I like the nesting night heron. Not an easy one to get, I wouldn’t think.
That mink is quite a fisherman!
I haven’t seen and cedar waxwings here yet so it was nice seeing them.
New Hampshire Gardener,
No, only night heron nest I have seen. Mink are feeding young now I think so they have to be productive. Always great to see the waxwings. Thank You…
Jim, went to Moon Bay after seeing you at Reeds. One juvenile was sitting high in the tree above the nest. During the morning he flew around well even landing in the nest from the back several times. Later that morning, another one leaped out front and landed about 4 feet down. I stayed for awhile, then went back late afternoon. It was still there. I was wondering if you went out to Moon Bay on Monday or Tuesday to give an update. I know, it is nature…just curious to see if he is doing ok. Always great to see you.
No, I did not go to Moon Bay. Normal for them to get out of the nest and on other branches often failing to land and hanging upside down until they fall and glide to the ground. They make out fine most of the time. Sometimes the adults will bring them food on the ground until they learn to fly back up and land on branches working their way back to the nest for a while before fledging for good. Yes, good to see you too…
