    Happy New Year!

      New Hampshire Gardener,
Thank You. Probably would have missed the coopers hawk, but the eagle I was watching started looking down and studying the ground. I spotted the coopers hawk when I looked where the eagle was staring…

Beautiful day, and beautiful pix. Was the Eagle looking down at the Coopers Hawk to perhaps ‘get it’? Do eagles prey on other birds? Never mind, not sure I want to know the answer. All of these birds are so beautifully photographed with great detail and the look on their ‘faces’ very expressive. You’d think a bird can’t ‘express’ but these are.

      Ellen Bunnell,
It was a beautiful day, and thank you. The eagle was just watching the hawk. Would watch the ducks and coots on the lake. It was probably hoping for a dead fish to float up to pick up for a meal. I have seen eagles eat ducks, coots(seem to be a favorite), pigeons, and a smaller bird once. They mostly scavenge them that they find dead already, although they do have the capability to catch them. It is rare in my opinion. The birds will have expressions. The look on the eagles gaze clued me in on something it was watching on the ground. The small hawk blended pretty will against the bank behind it so it took me a while to locate it. Guess I don’t have the eagle eye…
