Back Home

After a wonderful visit with the kids and grandkids in Louisville we are back home. I got out this morning around Kentucky Dam. A racoon saw me and peeked around the rocks and I guess decided I was not a threat. It sat down on a rock and nursed its two kits. A pleasant surprise. The heat of summer is on here. Warnings to be careful out in the sun for very long…

  1. Glad you had some fun!
Those are great shots of the raccoon family. I haven’t seen a family of them in quite a while.

      New Hampshire Gardener,
Thank You, The kits are about big enough to quit nursing I would think. Every now and then I spot coons along the lake shore…

Loved the Racoon family. I looked at the pix yesterday with a smile, because coincidentally, I had used one of your older pix of racoons for my FB cover and profile pic. I do not like to use pix of myself very often, because then I am looking at myself, so I use a variety of things. Very often various animals, most of which I use from pix of yours I keep. June & July have been a theme “The Eyes Have It”, and I’ve used pix of an animal and then a second one of same animal of it’s eye only. Yesterday I used racoons. I repeatedly label them giving credit to my “Birder friend” as the photographer, you. Long ago, years that is, I had asked you permission to use some of your pix for just that, not for any other reason, and you said yes. I still find looking at your blog a joy and still save hundreds of pix. I added this nursing mom and her kits to my collection. You are one fantastic photographer and writer as well. I know that you take breaks, and must even get bored with doing the same old same old, but THANKS FOR KEEPING ON WITH IT ALL.

      Ellen Bunnell,
It was funny how the female coon propped up on the rock and made it easy for the kits to nurse. You are welcome to use the pics. The wonders I get to see are out there for free. Lucky am I to get to view so much and live in an area abundant with wildlife. Your very welcome…

Great photos! Glad you had a good time on your trip. You are back at beautiful posts again. MCS

      Mary S,
Thank You. Feel that when with the kids and grandkids they should get my full attention. In the past I have tried to do both and felt as if that was a mistake. Thanks again for stopping by…
