A Visit To Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park

We had a wonderful trip to visit Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. Before we unloaded at our room we made a swing around the park. Got lucky and spotted a Woodcock and its four chicks. First time I have ever seen woodcock chicks. My trip was already worthwhile with this sighting.

I really enjoyed spending time walking the trails with my “Little Woman”. It has been a while since we have shared this pleasure. Lots of wildflowers to enjoy. The redbud blooms were at their peak.

It was a photography weekend competition. I did not win anything but was very pleased with almost every photo I took throughout the weekend. My wife won a first in the wildflower division with a stunning shot of a trillium bloom.

Although we only saw sunshine on the morning we left it was a bright overcast each day which is wonderful for photographing wildflowers. It has always been a joy to visit this park. I think of the sounds as well as the sights. The quiet peace of overlooking the lake that lies below the cliff the resort park lodge sits on. Hearing the first whippoorwill and wood thrush calls before sunrise. Ending each day tired from walking the trails. I am thankful…

The Park is simply full of gorgeous subjects to photograph. At least, I think so. Your photographs indicate that that is so. What a wonderful time you two had, I am sure. Beautiful batch of photos. Each as stunning as the next. I’m compelled to take a second wander through them, and maybe a third. (Is one of the Trillium, the one for which your wife won recognition? It sure looks like it.)

      Ellen Bunnell,
Yes it us a fun park to visit. We did have a great time. Thank you. No that trillium pic is mine but similar to my wife’s. I did not enter that pic, I entered the butterfly on the bluebells in the wildflower division. We were in different divisions skill level wise also…

Jim, Every shot you took was a WINNER!—–Larry

  3. You took some beautiful photos!
The woodcock family would have done it for me too.
Nice to see the redbuds and troutlilies again.

      New Hampshire Gardener,
Thank You. Spring color coming on strong here. I planted wildflower patches and sunflowers last week and they are all coming up already…

You took a great set of photographs Jim. I was very surprised that you didn’t place. You are always a very strong competitor.

    • Jim says:

      Warrena Barnerd,
Thank You. I was pleased to capture what I saw. I thought the judge did a great job. Have been to others where not so much. Congratulations on your wins! Spending time with my wife on these getaways I am always a winner. We don’t seem to get out together and explore as much as we used to. Thanks again for the compliment and stopping by and leaving a note…
