Ya’ Never Know

One thing that is certain about photographing wildlife is ya’ never know what to expect. My guesses for what to expect yesterday where not to good. The number of pelicans was about the same as when I left below the dams. No eagles seemed to be fishing in the tailwaters of the dam. I saw one juvenile eagle fly in and perch in a cove at Kentucky Dam Village State Park. The juvenile spent he entire day there and was still there when I left in the evening. I would leave for hours and come back and find the bird still there. There was a fish frozen in the ice close to where the juvenile perched. In the morning it flew down near the fish but never ate. In the afternoon it remained perched for a couple hours as I waited, finally I gave up and went home. I did catch a kingfisher flying up to land on a wire although the nicest wing and tail flare has a conglomeration of electrical insulaters and stuff in the background. To capture a really good flight image requires a lot of luck, ya never know. I set up as best as I know how and keep trying…
