Happy Memorial Day

Wishing you a happy Memorial Day.

We had a stormy Saturday night. During the day Sunday the skies remained overcast but the storms all slid south of us. Around mid-day I got one of those nudges to go visit the eagles nest. When I arrived one adult was perched way back in the pines napping. One eaglet was in the nest. One eaglet was perched about half way down the eagles nest tree. Another eaglet was scrambling to hang on to a perch, not very successfully. The eaglet hung for a while upside down finally letting go and pine needles and branches fell along with it as it tried to grab another perch then righting itself and gliding to the ground safely. I am not sure if the stormy night caused the two eaglets to leave the nest or not. Fish and wildlife closed the road that passes the nest. They also closed the area to foot traffic for a while. This is a good thing to allow the eagles and eaglets to do what comes naturally. So that will be the end of my observing the eagles nest for this season. I might swing by for a visit when the area reopens. Hopefully all three eaglets will be healthy and taking to wing and landing easily by then….

  1. Those are great shots of the eagles. That young one is lucky it didn’t break a wing when it fell!
I wish we had bold minks that would come out in the open like that. I rarely see them.
Nice shot of the quail! I never see them either.
Hope you had a good Memorial Day!

They took the two eagles. Got a bucket truck to get the one perched to a raptor rehab place. Don’t understand that. The mink will usually only give you a few more glimpses once they see you. The other glimpses are them studying you mostly in the weeds but sometimes in the open. Like the one pick of the one without a craw today. Wish I could see the quail more often. Have not heard one calling on the farm this spring. Had a good quit memorial day. Photographed early then worked on the farm and packed up for a weeks vacation starting tomorrow.
