Jomegat,
I never heard much good about the Chevette's. Getting ripped off at some point in time is a part of the price of being American and needing a car to get to work. I still feel as if I should be able to repair our cars. I have had many days of scratching my head at engineering ineptness by auto manufacturer's.

I had the clutch cable in a Chevette snap on me once. I was car pooling with a friend and it was my turn to drive. I pressed in the clutch, and THUNK. No clutch. I had to make a left turn against heavy traffic, but somehow I managed. We limped back to his place and he drove us to the office.

That was the most awful car I ever owned. As soon as I got it fixed, we went out and bought a new car. I gave the Chevette to Goodwill. I didn't want to NEED a new car on the day I was on the lot looking for one. It puts you in a much better bargaining position. I also didn't want the car dealer trying to rip me off with the trade-in. I can do that myself, thank you very much.

NHG,
It so happens my second car a mustang I would often have to shift without a clutch to make it home. A cotter pin would shear off and a piece that depressed the shifting forks would fall out. I would pick up the piece start the car in gear and flat shift home and fix it. Nice to hear from another with fine taste in ancient rock.
